Region: Bubanza Elevation: 1700 masl Variety: Red Bourbon Process: Washed Notes: Panela, red apple, soft florals, & juicy About: Rusekabuye means ‘man who hits stone with head and breaks it into one thousand pieces’. It is the youngest of the washing stations in the Akawa project and perhaps the most picturesque. Hilare, one of the owners of Rusekabuye, was lobbied by producers in the region to build it as he has a great reputation for being fair. At the time, there was only one other station in operation and it wasn’t treating the producers well. Although Hilare was threatened by the other station owner, the farming community wouldn’t let him back down. In 2017 Rusekabuye was finished and since then it has processed two harvests. We look forward to supporting it through many more.
